VALERIANA Y SUS PROPIEDADES (VALERIAN)

Importante planta  utilizada  en  las afecciones del  sistema  nervioso. Es sedante, soporífero, calmante, muy  eficaz en estados de hiperexcitabilidad, jaquecas e insomnio, trastornos  cardíacos o digestivos de origen  nervioso;  es antiparasitario.

La valeriana es una  de las plantas  medicinales más importantes que  se conocen para el tratamiento de las afecciones nerviosas.

Los remedios a base  de  valeriana  son  calmantes, sedantes,  anticonvulsivos y antiespasmódicos. La planta  es muy  adecuada contra  los estados de  irritabilidad e hiperexcitabilidad, insomnio, neurosis, asma  nerviosa, espasmos de  estómago, calambres  y trastornos  cardíacos  o digestivos de  origen  nervioso. Es útil en  caso  de agotamiento intelectual, cansancio, depresión nerviosa e insomnio crónico.  Es soporífera.

Además de  su  propiedad terapéutica principal  contra  las afecciones nerviosas, una infusión o maceración en frío de valeriana también posee virtudes antiparasitarias, y es eficaz contra  los vómitos y timpanitis.

La valeriana se suele preparar en infusión, maceración, y tintura o extracto  fluido. El extracto  alcohólico  (tinctura  valerianae),  suele  ser una  forma  habitual  de  aplicación de la valeriana como sedante nervioso.

Maceración de valeriana contra el insomnio y las jaquecas

A una taza de agua  fría añadir 2 cucharaditas de raíz desmenuzada. Dejar macerar medio día. Tomar 1 o 2 tazas al día contra las jaquecas;  calentar y beber  antes  de acostarse  si de desean efectos contra  el insomnio.

Tintura de valeriana sedante y antiespasmódica

A 100  mililitros de alcohol de 70º  añadir 25 gramos  de raíz desmenuzada.  Dejar macerar  durante 10 días. Tomar diez gotas  3 veces  al día, si se desea  endulzar con miel o azúcar.

Baño calmante de valeriana

A un litro de agua  hirviendo añadir un puñado de raíz desmenuzada. Dejar reposar media  hora.  Filtrar y verter en el agua  del baño.

Antisudorífico, tónico general, estomacal, afecciones gástricas e intestinales, antidiarreico,  cordial, diurético, astringente, antiséptico, antiinflamatorio de  vías respi- ratorias altas, antiespasmódico, regulador de las funcio- nes  menstruales, afecciones de  boca  y garganta,  ron- quera,  usos  tópicos  (llagas, úlceras,  dermatosis).


Otros usos y propiedades:


aplicaciones culinarias y pastelería.

La salvia es una planta muy  eficaz contra la excesiva transpiración, especialmente la nocturna producida por fiebres altas. Se emplea contra las afecciones gástricas e intestinales, y concretamente sus procesos inflamatorios; es estomacal y antidiarreica.  También es útil en la infla- mación de las vías respiratorias altas, tos y tuberculosis. Se le reconocen propiedades cordiales, tónicas,  estimu- lantes, diuréticas, antiespasmódicas y reguladoras de las funciones menstruales.

Externamente es eficaz en  inflamaciones de  la cavi- dad bucal y garganta, en gargarismos para las anginas, dolor  de  muelas  y parodontitis. Se usa como desinfec- tante  de la piel en cataplasmas y baños, especialmente aquellas  afecciones de  origen  micósido, también en dermatosis, úlceras y llagas.

Infusión de salvia antisudorífica

A un  litro de  agua  caliente  añadir dos  puñaditos de  hojas  secas de  salvia, dejar reposar 10 minutos. Filtrar y tomar  a intervalos  de dos horas en caso de sudoración excesiva.
Gargarismos de salvia para afecciones de garganta

Para la laringitis e  irritaciones  de  garganta, añadir  a medio litro de  agua  dos cucharaditas de  hojas  secas  de  salvia, dejar  a fuego lento  hasta  que  comience  a hervir. Dejar tapado reposando unos 15 minutos. Con el líquido tibio hacer gargarismos varias veces  al día.
Infusión de salvia para usos internos, en afecciones gástricas, intestinales y respiratorias

Para las aplicaciones internas  ya descritas,  especialmente la inflamación de  las vías respiratorias altas, tos y tuberculosis, se puede preparar una infusión  a razón de una  cucharada de hojas desmenuzadas de salvia por cada taza de agua; se mantie- ne en reposo durante 10 minutos antes  de colar.

Diabetes (baja los niveles de glucosa)

En una  taza  de  agua  hirviendo agregue 2 cucharadas de  hoja  seca  de  salvia, dejar reposar unos  minutos. Tomar 3 tazas al día.

DESCRIPCIÓN BOTÁNICA  – Planta robusta. Mide entre 60 y 150 cm de altura. Tiene una raíz gruesa y ramificada, que da lugar a una roseta de hojas ovaladas, rodeadas de dientes irregulares. Durante el segundo año se desarrolla un tallo recto, que en la parte superior tiene pocas hojas y ramas. Las hojas del tallo son alternas y las superiores están rodeadas de espinas amarillas. Los tallos están coronados por flores de color púrpura o blanco. Los frutos son unos aquenios marrones y moteados. Florece de julio a septiembre.
RECOLECCIÓN – Los frutos a medida que maduran.
DROGA – Frutos secos.
PRINCIPIOS ACTIVOS  – Silimarina, flavonoides, ácido linoléico, oléico y palmítico y tocoferol.
PROPIEDADES – Acción hepato-desintoxicante, regenerador de la célula hepática, colerética y colagoga, tónico cardiaco y algo hipotensor. Digestiva, venotónica, diurética y antipirética.
USOS  y  APLICACIONES –  Insuficiencia  hepatobiliar,  hepatitis  agudas  y  crónicas, cirrosis, inapetencia, dispepsias, hemorragias, gripe, catarros y cistitis.

Silybum Marianum L.





BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION - Robust plant. It measures between 60 and 150 cm in height. It has a thick and branched root, which gives rise to a rosette of oval leaves, surrounded by irregular teeth. During the second year a straight stem develops, which at the top has few leaves and branches. The leaves of the stem are alternate and the upper ones are surrounded by yellow spines. The stems are crowned by purple or white flowers. The fruits are brown and speckled achenes. It blooms from July to September.
